TACO BELL EVENT RAISES OVER $26,450 FOR YFS
Rapid City and Spearfish residents chose to make a trip to Taco Bell restaurants during the Second Annual Feed the Need Day to satisfy their hunger and help raise funds for Youth & Family Services Girls Incorporated®.
The Second Annual Feed the Need Day at Taco Bell raised more than $26,450 for YFS. This includes a $10,000 challenge gift from Taco Bell, the more than $16,000 in donations to YFS made from April 20 through May 5, and donations made at Taco Bell restaurants May 5.
"I would like to thank Taco Bell customers for their generosity and assure them that their donations are going to a great cause," said Tom Sexton, Taco Bell partner. "YFS provides quality educational programs for our local kids, and we are proud to support them."
Donors who contributed $50 or more to YFS between April 20 and May 5 were automatically entered into a drawing for three prizes. Following are the prize winners: Altrusa Club of Rapid City won a $1,000 travel voucher from Modrick’s Travel; Dr. Lee & Robbie Ahrlin won a Family Fiesta Party at Watiki Waterpark; and Western Dakota Insurers won a Cinco De Mayo Celebration package from Pepsi.
This is the second time Taco Bell has teamed up with YFS for such an event. In 2007 Taco Bell successfully raised enough money to purchase a vehicle for the YFS Girls Inc. Health Connections program to transport girls to and from medical appointments. Tom Sexton said the fundraiser was a great way for individuals and businesses in the Black Hills to show their support for area youth and “double their money.”
Girls ages 6 to 17 enrolled at Girls Inc. participate in Operation SMART (Science, Math and Relevant Technology), a highly acclaimed program that encourages girls to engage in science and math activities and investigate nontraditional, technical/vocational or scientific careers. Last year, Girls Inc. encouraged nearly 900 girls to explore, have fun and get messy through hands-on activities, mentoring experiences and laboratory experimentation.
