Helping kids through times of trauma

The Youth Trauma Center’s purpose is to increase identification of youth and families who have been exposed to traumatic stress and works to shorten the time it takes to get them into effective treatment programs.

Screenings Available

Youth & Family Services Youth Trauma Center offers screenings to children who may be experiencing traumatic stress. Initial screenings can be requested by calling (605) 342-4789 or by emailing ccgeneral@youthandfamilyservices.org.

If information warrants, a full screening will be scheduled. Full screenings will include an interview and assessments with the child and caregiver. Fees associated with assessments can be funded through South Dakota Medicaid, private insurance, self-pay, or other grant funding.

Youth and families who are identified as experiencing traumatic stress will be referred to appropriate treatment providers.

Treatment for families will improve the caregiver’s emotional reactions to children’s trauma experiences and reduce post-traumatic stress symptoms experienced by primary caregivers.

Treatment programs available at Youth & Family Services include: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Project Making Medicine: Mending the Circle, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Problematic Sexual Behavior-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Equine Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, Integrated Treatment for Complex Trauma, and Coping Skills Group.
