YFS' Child Development Center is a state-licensed child care program that serves children, ages 4 weeks through third grade. We are one of the only facilities in the area that focus on the unique needs of low-income families. Our center incorporates year-round Head Start options for families who qualify.

YFS' Child Development Center accepts families who receive Child Care Assistance benefits through the South Dakota Department of Child Care Services.

Discounted rates are available for families with more than one child enrolled and families who meet income guidelines. 

Families do not pay for the Head Start or Early Head Start portion of their child’s day; however, extra hours of childcare are available at an affordable rate. The inclusion of Head Start programming allows us to offer developmental screenings, family services assistance, counseling for children and families, parent trainings, and nutrition and health education for families of children, ages 4 weeks to 5 years. This option is available to families who qualify.

1What are the income guidelines to qualify for Head Start?
Income guidelines are set by the federal government each year. We can help you determine if your family qualifies based on income, family size, and a few other factors. Call or fill out the interest form today!
2Are there other ways to qualify?
Yes! If you have documentation that your family qualifies for Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or if your child is in foster care, a kinship placement, or experiencing homelessness.
3Is proof of income required?
Proof of income is required with your application. Everyone is encouraged to apply regardless of income as a limited number of over income spots are available.
4What type of income verification do I need?
The following items can be used for verification purposes: income tax form 1040, W-2, or current pay stub, unemployment documentation, written statements from employer, child support or guardianship payment documentation, financial aid award letter, SNAP or public assistance award letter, or foster placement documentation.
5What if my child has a disability?
A child may also qualify for Head Start if he or she has a disability and could benefit from participation.
