Head Start is a no-cost preschool program for children, ages 0 - 5.
If you qualify for Head Start, here are some options:
Center-Based Head Start

Rapid City Head Start
• For children ages 4 weeks - 5 yrs.
• 9 month (school calendar) or 12 month options
• Half day and full day class times (3.5 hrs., 6 hrs. and 6.5 hrs. per day)
• Classroom setting
• Head Start preschool programming
• Locations: Rapid City (E. Monroe Street and E. Adams St.) and Box Elder (Douglas Schools)
Full Day/Full Year
• For children ages 4 weeks - 5 yrs.
• 12 month calendar with extended hours (open 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
• Full day class times (Head Start is 7 hours per day)
• Classroom setting within the Child Development Center program
• Head Start preschool programming with extra hours of childcare available at an affordable rate
• Locations: Rapid City (E. Adams St.)
Home-Based Head Start

Home-Based Head Start
• For expectant parents and children, ages 0 - 5 years
• School year schedule
• Weekly home visits
• In child's home environment
• Social gatherings with other families
• Head Start activities, resources, and programming
• Locations: Custer, Fall River, Haakon, Jackson, Lawrence, Meade and Pennington Counties
